Creation Sundays

I have the most amazing and wonderful husband in the entire world!  I am so in love with him too!  Several months ago he came up with the idea of ‘Creation Sundays’ – a day to fully rest and be in God’s creation.  No computers, no technology, no shopping, no distractions.  After church, we pack some food and head out into God’s world.  We have had the most wonderful times together as a family since we started doing this.  Hiking, canoeing, picnicking, sitting by the lake, watching birds, listening to the sounds of creation, picking wildflowers, creek walking, rock throwing…

The kids adore this time.  It is by far their favorite time of the week.  Corban made the decision that we go rain or shine, no matter the temp.  And so far – we have done just that.  (As a little gift to me – we have yet to have a snowy or rainy Sunday since we started:)  I have lots of pics of our time together – but here is one of my recent favorites…Image

Tennis!

Samuel had his first tennis lessons last week – and he LOVED them!  Daddy and Boppa accompanied him every morning – and while I think Corban was a bit dismayed at the lack of actual ‘technique’ being taught (I had to remind him that the coach was working with 4 year olds:) – the experience was wonderful for Samuel!  And here he is practicing his forearm (I think that’s what they call it)…Image

Dereche

The recent dereche that swept across nine states, left quite an imprint on the central virginia area.  Several houses around us were nearly destroyed, cars were smashed, trees were downed, and the majority of our area was without power for 7 days.  Thankfully, we were spared in almost every way!  Our power was restored within 24 hours.  We had one large tree come down on the back part of our property that damaged our fence – but nothing more.  And by God’s continued grace, the large oak tree next to our deck remained standing.  We are so thankful for God’s ever-present protection over our family and our home.  Here are some pics of the kids surveying the damage the next morning…

Brother/Sister

Ok, I’ll admit it – I LOVE brother/sister outfits!  And while the kids are still young enough to ‘allow’ me to dress them this way – I just have to get a few each season:)Image

Hot Days!

What to do on a 104 degree day, with no power, and all area swimming pools closed?  Why use the remaining water you have to run through the sprinkler of course:)

Nannie!

Soon after we returned from the beach – Nannie came to visit!  The kids could not have been more thrilled.  As Samuel says ‘Nannie brings lots and lots of presents’.  And while we are trying to teach the children that Nannie is their present – they love every minute that they get to spend with her!  She is a true blessing to our family – and we are so thankful for all of the many things she does for (and brings to:) us!

Kiawah

Not only did we take a wonderful vacation as a family – but I also seem to have taken quite a long vacation from this blog!   Ahhhh – it seems that I am just not great at documenting pictures, memories, etc.  Thankfully, I have thousands of digital pictures of my kids – just no organization to them!  And no time to think about that right now.  Someday!

For now – here are a few pics of our recent time in Kiawah.  We love that place!  Well, Kalia was not so fond of the actual beach part – but she adored the villa:)
